Helena Samuels BA(Hons) PGCE MA MBACP
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work mainly from a person centred approach. However I believe it is important to be aware of your needs as a client and so may integrate other approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA) into my work. There is much research showing that it is the quality of the relationship between client and counsellor which most affects the effectiveness of counselling and I strive to work collaboratively with you in order to help you reach your desired outcome from our time together.
I have been listening to clients in one form or another for over 25 years beginning as a volunteer befriender while developing my career in education. After leaving teaching I spent seven years working counselling groups of people who have emotional eating issues and addictive behaviour around food. Most recently I have worked as a counsellor with a general counselling service run by a Haringey based local charity and I have also worked as a counsellor in a local Category B men’s prison.
I am also a tutor in the Counselling department at City Lit based in Holborn, central London. Currently I teach counselling courses at various levels including Introduction to Counselling, Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and the professional level Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
I hold the CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Skills, the BACP Accredited Diploma in Counselling and a Foundation Degree in Counselling (Middlesex University). As a member of the BACP I adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
